VinFast is preparing to launch its electric scooters in India, having signed Letters of Intent (LoIs) with more than 50 dealers. This move marks the company's entry into the country's vast two-wheeler market, which is recognized as the largest globally in terms of sales volume. The initial offerings are expected to include models like the Viper and Rasad, which have already received design patents in India earlier this year.
The company aims to establish over 50 showrooms across 15 states and Union Territories, focusing on major cities that have demonstrated a strong demand for electric two-wheelers. Although the specific cities have not been disclosed, the states targeted for this expansion include Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal. While an exact launch date remains unconfirmed, it could occur within the next few weeks or potentially around the New Year.
VinFast's experience in the Indian electric car market is expected to facilitate a swift rollout of its two-wheeler operations. The electric two-wheeler segment is experiencing consistent growth, with sales reaching 188,714 units in August 2026, reflecting a remarkable 131% increase compared to the previous year. This positive trend presents a favorable environment for VinFast as it prepares to compete with established brands like Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, and Ather.
The Rasad electric scooter, which is a new model not available in any other market, indicates that VinFast may introduce unique products tailored for Indian consumers. While the company is known for its mass-market vehicles, it may initially launch a flagship model before expanding into more affordable options across various segments, including economy, mid-range, and premium.
With a significant market share in Vietnam, where it is the leading electric two-wheeler brand, VinFast is poised to leverage its expertise in the Indian market, which holds substantial potential for electric mobility. The company’s entry is anticipated to invigorate competition and innovation within the rapidly evolving electric two-wheeler landscape in India.
