Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's leading software exporter, is poised to release its earnings for the July-September quarter on October 8. This announcement marks the beginning of the Q2 IT earnings season, with TCS expected to showcase its strong performance driven by a series of significant contracts, including a $1.45 billion deal with Porsche and a ₹70,000 crore investment in a new data center in Hyderabad.
In the context of the current economic landscape, analysts anticipate a modest sequential growth for TCS, despite the traditionally strong performance during this quarter. The company is facing challenges from AI-driven deflationary pressures that may impact its growth trajectory. According to a poll conducted by CNBC-TV18, TCS's revenue in rupees is expected to increase by 1.3% quarter-on-quarter to ₹73,225 crore, while profit after tax is projected to rise by 2.4% to ₹13,673 crore. The EBIT margin is expected to remain stable, with a slight increase of 20 basis points from the previous quarter.
Brokerages have estimated TCS's total contract value for the second quarter to be between $8 billion and $11 billion, reflecting the company's robust deal closure momentum. Alongside the major contract with Porsche, TCS has secured multi-year agreements with various clients, including ABB and Vodafone. Investors will be keen to hear management's insights on discretionary spending trends and the demand outlook for the latter half of the fiscal year.
TCS has been actively pursuing acquisitions to enhance its growth prospects, mirroring strategies employed by competitors like Accenture. The recent acquisition of Porsche's IT arm MHP for approximately $373 million is expected to bolster TCS's capabilities in automotive consulting. Additionally, the company is expanding its global capability center operations, which includes acquiring Best Buy's GCC unit in Bengaluru.
As TCS embarks on a significant AI transformation, the company is focusing on aligning its services with an AI-first strategy. This includes a substantial investment in a new data center in Hyderabad. The company reported annualized AI revenues of nearly $2.6 billion, indicating a 13.6% growth quarter-on-quarter. TCS's hiring strategy will also be under scrutiny, with plans to onboard around 8,900 engineers to support its AI initiatives, contingent on future demand.
