On Monday, shares of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) fell to ₹1,761, dipping below their initial public offering (IPO) price of ₹1,785. This decline occurred amidst a broader downturn in Indian equity markets, driven by profit booking and rising oil prices following stalled peace talks between the US and Iran.

The NSE made its market debut on September 24, where it initially closed nearly 2% higher, achieving a valuation of ₹4.49 lakh crore, ranking it among the world's top exchanges. The stock opened at ₹1,800, reflecting a slight premium over the IPO price, and peaked at ₹1,878 during trading before closing at ₹1,818, marking a 1.85% increase over the issue price.

As of Monday, NSE's market valuation decreased to ₹4,37,580 crore, representing a loss of ₹12,375 crore since its debut. The IPO, which raised ₹22,569 crore, was oversubscribed by 5.71 times, with institutional investors showing significant interest, leading to bids for 50.58 crore shares against 8.86 crore shares available.

Despite the recent downturn, analysts remain optimistic about the NSE's future performance. Brokerages have set price targets indicating potential gains of up to 15% from the IPO price. PL Capital has initiated coverage with an 'Accumulate' rating and a target of ₹1,950, while Macquarie has given an 'Outperform' rating with a target of ₹1,965, both suggesting positive growth potential. Emkay Global Financial Services has also rated the stock as a 'Buy' with a target price of ₹2,050 by September 2027.

Looking ahead, investors will be closely monitoring market conditions and analyst recommendations as they navigate the current volatility. The NSE's performance in the coming weeks will be critical in determining investor sentiment and market stability, particularly in light of external economic factors affecting the Indian market.
