During the NDTV Profit Ignite event, Ashishkumar Chauhan, the Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), emphasized the recent trend of global capital returning to India. He noted that for the past three years, international investors had withdrawn funds from markets lacking a strong artificial intelligence (AI) narrative, redirecting their investments towards the US, Taiwan, and South Korea. However, as these markets have matured, there is now a noticeable shift back towards emerging markets like India.

Chauhan explained that the surge in global investments into AI stocks has significantly increased their market capitalisation, drawing liquidity away from Indian equities. He highlighted that the total market cap has grown from approximately $35 trillion to $75 trillion over three years, largely due to the AI boom. This shift has created an opportunity for Indian IT firms, which are now seen as cost-effective providers of AI solutions, utilizing open-source tools to enhance their offerings.

The NSE CEO pointed out that while the initial perception of the AI boom suggested a negative impact on India's domestic IT sector, recent trends indicate that local software exporters are actually experiencing revenue growth. By implementing AI solutions at lower costs than their Western counterparts, these firms are capitalizing on the evolving market dynamics. Chauhan stated, "Their revenues are increasing" as they adapt to the changing landscape.

Chauhan also addressed concerns among domestic promoters and retail investors regarding IPO pricing. He urged them to prioritize long-term performance over initial listing gains, stating, "Whatever your IPO price is, it is not important. Where you reach is important." He cautioned that focusing too heavily on initial valuations could lead to adverse outcomes, advising investors to remain patient as companies work towards achieving sustainable growth.

Looking ahead, the NSE chief expressed optimism about the future of Indian markets, suggesting that as global capital continues to flow back into India, the country’s IT sector could see significant benefits. He encouraged stakeholders to stay informed about market trends and to focus on the long-term potential of their investments.
