Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027 on October 27, revealing a remarkable 33% increase in net profit, which reached ₹5,202 crore compared to ₹3,926 crore in the same quarter last year. This performance significantly surpassed Bloomberg's forecast of ₹4,342 crore, indicating robust growth in the company's financial health.
The company reported a 16% rise in revenue, amounting to ₹78,750 crore for the quarter ending September 30, up from ₹67,984 crore in the previous year. The earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) also saw a slight increase of 1%, totaling ₹6,845 crore, although the EBITDA margin contracted to 8.7% from 10% year-on-year.
During this quarter, L&T's order inflows experienced a substantial growth of 28%, reaching ₹1.47 lakh crore. This increase reflects the company's strong market position and demand for its services across various sectors. Segment-wise, the green energy sector showed the most significant growth, with revenue surging 43% to ₹11,494 crore, while the manufacturing and products segment also reported a notable 31% increase.
The results have positive implications for L&T and the broader Indian economy, as the company's performance is often seen as a barometer for infrastructure and construction sectors. The rise in order inflows suggests a healthy pipeline of projects, which could lead to increased employment and economic activity in the coming quarters.
Looking ahead, L&T is expected to maintain its growth trajectory as it continues to secure new projects and expand its operations. Investors and analysts will be closely monitoring the company's performance in the upcoming quarters, particularly in light of the ongoing economic challenges and opportunities in the infrastructure sector.
