GIFT Nifty signals a negative opening for Indian markets on October 7.
Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty closed higher on October 6, with Sensex gaining 685.34 points.
Investors are cautious ahead of the RBI policy decision, impacting market sentiment.
The Indian stock market is expected to start on a negative note on October 7, 2026, as indicated by GIFT Nifty, which is trading lower. This comes after Asian markets opened lower, breaking a recent gaining streak, while US stock futures reached record highs earlier this week.
On October 6, the benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, experienced significant gains, with the Sensex rising by 685.34 points to close at 73,067.81. This positive momentum was fueled by a drop in crude oil prices below $100 per barrel and strong buying activity in banking stocks, particularly Reliance Industries. The Nifty also saw an increase of 220.35 points, closing at 22,776.10, as investor sentiment remained buoyant.
Market analysts indicate that the Indian equities are likely to open flat, with GIFT Nifty hovering around 22,780. Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, CEO of HST Wealth, noted that while record highs on Wall Street provide a supportive global backdrop, elevated U.S. Treasury yields and the upcoming RBI policy decision could temper risk appetite among investors. The Indian rupee has also weakened, trading at 96.56 against the dollar, which adds to market caution.
Looking ahead, Sachin Gupta from Choice Equity Broking highlighted that the Sensex has shown improvement in its short-term structure. A sustained move above 73,000 could bolster recovery, pushing the index towards 73,400-73,500. Conversely, failing to hold above 72,500 may lead to further consolidation. Meanwhile, Rupak De from LKP Securities mentioned that the Nifty's recovery above 22,600 is crucial, with resistance at 22,850. A failure to surpass this level could prompt a market correction.
As global markets continue to influence local trends, investors are advised to remain vigilant, particularly with the RBI's policy decision looming. The next few trading sessions will be critical in determining the market's direction, and analysts are closely monitoring these developments for potential impacts on investor sentiment and market stability.
