The move comes as Indian investors seek opportunities in booming sectors like AI and semiconductors.

Bengaluru-based financial platform Groww has commenced the phased rollout of its US stock investing feature, which is expected to be accessible to all users within a month. This initiative follows the company's acquisition of an International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) license for global investing through GIFT City in July. Groww has collaborated with Alpaca Securities, a US-based brokerage infrastructure provider, to facilitate this offering.

The new feature enables investors to buy and sell shares of US-listed companies directly through the Groww app, supporting fractional investments. Users will have access to a wide array of over 10,000 stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), including major names like Google, Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon, and Meta. While Groww is rolling out this feature, competitors such as Zerodha, Angel One, and Upstox have also received approval to offer US stocks, with Upstox having already launched its platform earlier this month.

The introduction of the Global Access Provider (GAP) registration by GIFT City in August 2025 has provided a secure and cost-effective route for Indian investors to engage in international markets, eliminating withdrawal costs when repatriating funds to India. Groww, which initially focused on mutual fund investments, now boasts over 20 million active users and manages assets worth approximately ₹4 lakh crore, as per its latest quarterly financial report.

Historically, platforms like IndMoney, smallcase, and Vested Finance have dominated India's global investing landscape. However, Groww's recent product launches, including commodities trading and expanded margin trading facilities, reflect its strategic shift to diversify revenue sources beyond futures and options trading, which accounted for 52% of its revenue in the last quarter.

The growing interest in US stocks is largely attributed to AI-driven market rallies in the US, Taiwan, and South Korea, alongside a depreciating rupee and a robust US IPO pipeline. The Nasdaq has delivered impressive returns of 40% over the past year, further enticing Indian investors. Notably, SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, raised $75 billion in July, marking the largest stock market flotation in history. With AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI expected to list in the US soon, the global investment landscape is poised for significant shifts.
