Gold purchases in India have seen a notable increase following a recent correction in prices, with consumers focusing on affordability and design. Industry leaders report that lightweight designs and studded pieces are gaining traction among buyers. Darshan Desai, CEO of Aspect Bullion & Refinery, noted that while the recent price drop has sparked interest, consumers remain cautious about spending due to ongoing price volatility influenced by U.S. economic data and currency fluctuations.
The demand for jewelry continues to be strong across various price segments. Saumen Bhaumik, managing director of CaratLane, highlighted that consumers are now more deliberate in their spending habits, showing interest in both value-oriented and premium jewelry options. The extended festive and wedding calendar, coupled with a sustained appetite for diamonds and everyday jewelry, is contributing to a positive market sentiment.
Mangesh Chauhan, managing director of Sky Gold & Diamonds, which supplies jewelry to major brands, stated that the demand driven by festivities and weddings is expected to remain robust. He emphasized that the relative stability of gold prices in recent months has given consumers the confidence to plan their purchases. However, there is a noticeable shift towards affordability, with buyers increasingly seeking lightweight, lower-carat jewelry that does not compromise on design.
Supriya Kataria, founder of Kumari Fine Jewellery, remarked that rising gold prices have made consumers more selective rather than deterring them from making purchases. Buyers are now more inclined to compare gold prices, making charges, and promotional offers, with brand trust playing a crucial role in their decisions. The trend indicates that while discretionary purchases may slow down, the demand for jewelry during weddings and festivals remains strong.
Looking ahead, industry executives anticipate that the festive and wedding seasons will continue to support demand for gold jewelry. However, purchase decisions may take longer as consumers weigh emotional spending against budget constraints. The focus is shifting towards maximizing design and value for each rupee spent, rather than simply increasing the quantity of gold purchased.
