In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized assets valued at ₹510 crore from the Reliance Anil Ambani Group (RAAG) as part of an ongoing investigation into money laundering and bank fraud. The action, taken on Tuesday, includes two private aircraft among other properties, which the agency claims are linked to fraudulent activities involving Reliance Home Finance Ltd (RHFL) and Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd (RCFL).

The ED's investigation centers on alleged financial misconduct amounting to ₹263.05 crore related to RHFL and ₹247.12 crore concerning Reliance Communications Ltd (RCOM). The agency has issued a provisional attachment order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), encompassing various assets, including six land parcels and an office in Maharashtra, in addition to the two aircraft, a Dassault Falcon 2000 and an Embraer.

According to the ED, the investigation revealed that the Reliance Group misappropriated public funds from banks and financial institutions. The agency alleges that the group exploited the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) to shield corporate assets for personal gain and diverted funds to offshore tax havens. The ED stated, "A large part was utilized for the individual benefit of the promoters and their family."

So far, the ED has arrested ten individuals in connection with these cases and has filed six chargesheets. Additionally, the agency has initiated a separate investigation under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). With this latest seizure, the cumulative value of assets attached and confiscated in these cases has surged to ₹23,100 crore, highlighting the scale of the alleged financial irregularities.

Looking ahead, the ED is expected to continue its investigations and may pursue further legal actions against those involved. The implications of these findings could have significant repercussions for the Reliance Anil Ambani Group and its operations, as the agency intensifies its scrutiny of the financial practices within the group.
