Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, is poised to go public, and its seven co-founders could see their fortunes soar dramatically. If the company achieves a valuation of $2 trillion during its initial public offering (IPO), the combined stakes of the founders could be worth between $27 billion and $29 billion. This significant increase in wealth is based on the 1.69 billion shares they collectively hold, which represents roughly 10% of the company, as detailed in their registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Founded in January 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has rapidly gained prominence in the AI sector, particularly with its Claude family of AI models. The demand for AI technologies has surged, making the founders' stakes increasingly valuable. Although the exact IPO price and share count have yet to be disclosed, estimates suggest that at the valuation seen in Anthropic's latest funding round, each founder's stake could be worth between $13.7 billion and $14.4 billion.

Tom Brown, the chief compute officer, holds the largest stake among the founders, with approximately 244.2 million shares. Other notable co-founders include Christopher Olah, Jared Kaplan, and Jack Clark, each holding substantial shares as well. Daniela Amodei, the company's president, and her brother Dario Amodei also have significant holdings, while Sam McCandlish has the smallest stake among the group.

In addition to potential wealth creation, the IPO will allow the founders to maintain considerable voting power through a special Class F share that grants them 50.1% of the voting rights on key corporate matters. This structure ensures that the founders can influence the company's direction even after it becomes publicly traded. They have also pledged to allocate 80% of their personal equity to philanthropic efforts, although these commitments are voluntary and not legally binding.

The IPO is expected to benefit major investors like Amazon and Google, who could retain significant shares post-listing. Their stakes may be valued at over $75 billion if the company achieves a $1.5 trillion valuation. As Anthropic prepares for its IPO, investors are advised to consider the company's rapid growth alongside its substantial financial risks, including high operational costs and the challenges of maintaining AI safety.
