Trump renames Lake Ontario to 'Lake America'.
Social media erupts with 'Donald Ducks' memes.
Canada and US lawmakers criticize the decision.
In a surprising move, US President Donald Trump has officially renamed Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' as part of ongoing tensions with Canada. This executive order, announced in the Oval Office, applies solely to the US government's use of the name and does not compel Canada or international organizations to adopt it.
The announcement has triggered a flurry of memes on social media, with users humorously suggesting that Canadian geese should now be referred to as 'Donald Ducks.' Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and various US lawmakers have expressed their disapproval, emphasizing the historical significance of the name Lake Ontario and criticizing the renaming as a distraction from more pressing issues, such as trade negotiations between the two countries.
