On October 10, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) held a large rally at Polo Ground in Shillong to show support for its candidate, Batskhem Myrboh, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election. The event was marked by a strong turnout, which party president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit highlighted as a testament to the public's trust in the VPP.
Basaiawmoit described the gathering as a simple meeting intended to wish Myrboh well, yet the substantial attendance sent a clear signal regarding the party's standing among its supporters. He expressed optimism that the enthusiasm displayed at the rally would translate into electoral success for the VPP candidate.
During his address, Basaiawmoit underscored the VPP's unique political philosophy, asserting that the party does not resort to paying individuals to attend its events or providing food as an incentive. He stated that the VPP expects attendees to come out of genuine interest in the issues discussed and the party's vision for public service.
The rally also served as a platform for Basaiawmoit to reinforce the notion that party leaders are meant to serve the public. He criticized the practice of incentivizing attendance at political meetings, arguing that supporters should willingly engage with the party's message. This approach, he believes, fosters a more authentic connection between the VPP and its constituents.
Looking ahead, the VPP plans to continue its strategy of prioritizing genuine public engagement over financial incentives. As the by-election approaches, the party is focused on maintaining its momentum and ensuring that its message resonates with the electorate, aiming for a successful outcome in the polls.
