Rajbhar is now facing charges of forgery in addition to the murder trial.
In a bizarre attempt to evade justice, Rajkumar Rajbhar, a 38-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on October 25 after staging his own death. The police apprehended him near his residence in Khwajajahanpur, following a tip-off that he had been living under the guise of being deceased for nearly 18 months. Rajbhar was on trial for the murder of Yogesh Singh, who was shot dead in December 2016, and had even submitted a death certificate to the court, claiming he was no longer alive to face the charges.
Rajbhar's elaborate scheme involved the use of artificial intelligence to create a fake funeral. He arranged for a goat to be cremated and used AI-generated images to depict himself as deceased, complete with a superimposed face on the animal's body. This deception was supported by photographs of a funeral procession and last rites, which he presented as evidence of his death. The authorities were alerted to his ruse when inconsistencies in the documentation were discovered during the ongoing trial.
The murder case against Rajbhar dates back to December 19, 2016, when Yogesh Singh was killed near the Munshipura railway line. Following the incident, a complaint was lodged by Singh's nephew, leading to Rajbhar and his accomplice, Sudarshan Rajbhar, being charged with murder. Despite being out on bail, Rajbhar's attempts to escape legal repercussions through fraudulent means ultimately led to his downfall.
Additional Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar revealed that Rajbhar, who had previously failed his Class 12 exams, was involved in stock market trading. He had reportedly collected substantial amounts of money from various individuals, promising to invest it in the market. The police suspect that his staged death was not only a tactic to avoid the murder trial but also a means to evade repaying the money he owed.
Following his arrest, Rajbhar now faces multiple charges, including forgery, in addition to the murder trial. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the extent of his fraudulent activities and the potential involvement of others in his elaborate scheme to escape justice.
