President Trump warns of serious consequences for Iran's refusal to change its course.
Debate continues over the effectiveness of MOAB in achieving US strategic goals.
The United States military is reportedly preparing to utilize its largest non-nuclear bomb, known as the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), against Iranian infrastructure if President Donald Trump decides to escalate military operations. According to a CNN report, officials familiar with the situation indicate that this would be the first deployment of the MOAB in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
This potential use of the MOAB signifies a considerable escalation in hostilities, as the bomb is designed to cause extensive damage over a wide area. However, military planners have expressed uncertainty regarding its effectiveness in meeting the strategic objectives set by Washington. The discussions around the bomb's deployment come amid increasing tensions in the region, particularly concerning Iran's nuclear ambitions and its influence over energy resources.
On Wednesday, President Trump announced plans for a new defense initiative in Montana, aimed at testing advanced military technologies, including autonomous systems and hypersonic weapons. This announcement comes as Trump faces mounting pressure to conclude the ongoing conflict, especially with midterm elections approaching and potential voter backlash looming over the Republican party.
Despite the rising tensions and attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump maintains that the war with Iran will end “very soon.” During a rally in Arizona, he asserted that the US has achieved “total control” over the strategic waterway and claimed significant losses for Iran's military capabilities, including its navy and air defenses.
In response, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf emphasized that Tehran will persist in its resistance until the US acknowledges its demands, while also clarifying that Iran does not seek a prolonged conflict. As the situation develops, the implications of any military action involving the MOAB could significantly alter the dynamics of US-Iran relations and regional stability.
