Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that Ukraine is prepared to consider India's ceasefire proposal, which he described as the most extensive among four offers received. This statement was made during a press briefing in Kyiv on October 2, 2026, where Sybiha emphasized the importance of a truce that addresses both energy infrastructure and the security situation in the Black Sea.
The ongoing conflict, which has persisted for over five years since Russia's invasion in February 2022, has led to the deaths of thousands of civilians and the displacement of millions. The war has also caused extensive damage to homes and critical infrastructure, prompting international calls for a resolution. Sybiha noted that proposals for a ceasefire have also been submitted by Turkiye, Egypt, and the United States, highlighting the global concern over the conflict's escalation.
Sybiha's remarks followed comments from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constructive ideas for resolving the Ukraine crisis. During a recent meeting, Putin indicated that Modi consistently raises the issue of peace at their discussions, suggesting a mutual interest in finding a resolution. The Kremlin has expressed support for India's diplomatic efforts, aligning with New Delhi's focus on dialogue.
As the situation intensifies, with increased Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine, Sybiha reiterated the necessity for a ceasefire that encompasses not only military engagements but also protections for energy and port infrastructure. The Black Sea has become a critical area of concern due to heightened missile and drone strikes affecting commercial shipping and port operations.
Looking ahead, Ukraine remains firm on its demand for an unconditional ceasefire along the front lines, a stance that has been met with resistance from Moscow, which insists on a comprehensive peace agreement. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with hopes for renewed diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.
