UAE Royal Mahrah Al Nahyan Charged with Child Neglect in London
Mahrah Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family, faces legal consequences after being found unconscious with a toddler in London.
Mahrah Al Nahyan was found unconscious on a London street with a three-year-old child nearby.
She has been charged with child neglect and admitted to a drug rehabilitation program.
The court has mandated a two-year community rehabilitation program and a fine of £6,114.
A member of the Abu Dhabi royal family, Mahrah Al Nahyan, was discovered unconscious on a London street on June 13, with an unattended three-year-old child nearby. The incident occurred in a busy area of west London, where the toddler was found playing barefoot close to traffic. Bystanders intervened to care for the child until police arrived on the scene.
The 32-year-old royal was reportedly unresponsive for about half an hour after a cocaine binge. Upon regaining consciousness, she expressed indifference to the situation, questioning why passersby were concerned. During a subsequent search, authorities found drug paraphernalia but no illegal substances on her person.
Following the incident, Al Nahyan was admitted to a rehabilitation clinic in Woking, Surrey, for addiction treatment. On Tuesday, she pleaded guilty to charges of child neglect at Southwark Crown Court. Her monthly allowance is reported to be £8,000, which raises questions about her ability to provide care.
Prosecutor Rio Pahlavanpour highlighted the dangers faced by the child, noting the lack of supervision and the proximity to moving vehicles. In her defense, lawyer Stephen Vullo KC acknowledged that Al Nahyan recognized her serious error but clarified that she had not consumed drugs on the day of the incident, attributing her state to exhaustion from prior use.
The court has ordered Al Nahyan to complete a two-year community rehabilitation program and imposed a fine of £6,114. Looking ahead, she plans to continue her recovery and intends to rent a property in the Guildford area, where she aims to transition to a day patient status as part of her rehabilitation journey.
