On Sunday, President Donald Trump introduced the 'Super Intelligence Force' (SIF), a new initiative designed to ensure that the United States remains at the forefront of advanced artificial intelligence (AI). This task force aims to unify government efforts with various stakeholders, including AI companies, consumer groups, and critical infrastructure providers, to enhance U.S. leadership in this rapidly evolving field.
The formation of SIF was announced through a post on Truth Social, where Trump emphasized its role in bolstering American interests in what he termed 'Super Intelligence.' He referenced a recent accord involving major technology companies, which he believes underscores their commitment to the American public. Trump stated, "The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence."
The leadership of the SIF will consist of prominent figures, including Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. Trump noted that this team will report directly to him and the Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, highlighting the administration's focus on this initiative.
This announcement follows an executive order that redefined the terminology surrounding AI, replacing 'Artificial Intelligence' with 'Super Intelligence' in official documents. The order mandates the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology to propose new legislation to Congress within 60 days, aimed at establishing a clearer federal definition of 'Super Intelligence' and suggesting modifications to existing laws.
The unveiling of the SIF coincides with a high-profile luncheon at the White House, where Trump engaged with leading tech executives, including Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. During this meeting, Trump described the potential of Super Intelligence as unprecedented, claiming it could surpass the impact of the internet. Zuckerberg echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of building public trust in the technology. As the initiative unfolds, the administration aims to ensure that the development of Super Intelligence is conducted safely and responsibly.
