Zelenskyy accuses Russia of ignoring calls for an energy ceasefire.
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump firmly denied allegations that the United States had ceased intelligence sharing with Ukraine. Speaking to reporters before heading to a campaign event in Alaska, Trump emphasized that both Kyiv and Moscow were eager to conclude the ongoing conflict, although he acknowledged that neither side knew how to achieve that goal.
Trump stated, "No, we haven't. We help them. But we're really hoping to get to a final answer. We want the war ended." He reiterated that the US was actively assisting Ukraine and sharing intelligence to facilitate the end of the war, indicating a commitment to work collaboratively with both nations.
When questioned about his confidence in Russian President Vladimir Putin's willingness to end the war compared to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump referenced his extensive experience in negotiations. He remarked, "Only in dealing, that's what I've done my whole life is deals. I think Putin wants it probably. They both want it to end, and they don't know how to get to that point."
These comments came in the wake of Zelenskyy's accusations that Russia had disregarded Trump's call for an energy ceasefire. The Ukrainian leader reported that despite Ukraine's restraint in attacking Russian energy assets, Russia had launched over 100 strikes across various regions in Ukraine, targeting civilian and critical infrastructure. Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainian forces had intercepted many of these attacks, but the damage was still significant.
Looking ahead, the situation remains tense as both leaders face pressure to negotiate a resolution. Trump’s assertions about the ongoing intelligence support and the need for dialogue between the two nations highlight the complexities of the conflict. As developments unfold, the international community will be watching closely to see if any progress can be made toward a ceasefire and peace negotiations.
