In a shocking incident, Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff was the target of a shooting attempt on Sunday evening in Mumbai's Juhu area. The 36-year-old actor was leaving a football practice session when assailants fired multiple shots at his vehicle, narrowly missing him. Fortunately, Shroff emerged unscathed, although two others, including his driver, sustained injuries during the attack.
The shooting has raised alarm bells within the film industry, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Police have detained three suspects in Rajasthan, with two reportedly hailing from Haryana and Bihar. The third individual is a minor. Authorities are expected to transfer these suspects to Mumbai police for further investigation.
Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff following the incident, stating that the actor was understandably shaken. Shinde condemned the attack, asserting that such acts of intimidation would not be tolerated. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis echoed these sentiments, labeling the incident as serious and promising that police would act swiftly to apprehend those responsible.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has voiced its outrage, claiming that the attack reflects a broader trend of violence targeting the film industry. They criticized the government for failing to ensure the safety of its members and called for enhanced security measures. The association's statement highlighted the need for the film industry to operate free from fear, reminiscent of the tumultuous 1990s when gang violence was rampant in Mumbai.
While police have not confirmed the identity of the attackers, reports suggest that a man linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility in an audio clip. The authenticity of this claim remains unverified, but it has reignited discussions about the gang's influence in Mumbai. The incident marks a troubling reminder of previous attacks on Bollywood figures, emphasizing the urgent need for improved safety protocols in the industry.
