During a recent inauguration event for the Chennai Metro Rail, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve the inter-State Metro Rail link connecting Hosur in Tamil Nadu to Bommasandra in Karnataka. This request aims to facilitate better transportation and economic benefits for both states. The event took place at Kendriya Vidyalaya on the IIT-Madras campus, coinciding with the launch of new passenger services along an 11-station stretch of the Chennai Metro.

Vijay's appeal comes as part of a broader push for infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu, particularly in the western and southern regions. He urged the Prime Minister to reconsider proposals for Metro projects in Coimbatore and Madurai, emphasizing their potential to drive future growth. The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of the Chennai Metro Phase III project, which covers approximately 65 kilometers and aims to improve connectivity across the metropolitan area.

In addition to the Metro initiatives, Vijay expressed gratitude for the announcement of two high-speed rail corridors in the Union Budget 2026, connecting Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. He noted that these projects would enhance regional connectivity and urged the government to sanction further high-speed rail corridors from Chennai to Kanniyakumari and Coimbatore, which would also support tourism.

Vijay also called for prioritization of several key infrastructure projects, including the widening of the Chengalpattu-Tiruchi section of the Grand Southern Trunk Road and the construction of an elevated corridor from Madhavaram to Sholavaram. He stated that timely approval of these projects is crucial for the economic development of Tamil Nadu and the nation as a whole.

Lastly, the Chief Minister reiterated the importance of interlinking rivers to ensure equitable water distribution across states, advocating for the Godavari-Cauvery river-linking project. He also addressed the need for Tamil to be recognized as the principal language in the Madras High Court proceedings and urged the Central Government to release ₹5,110 crore owed to Tamil Nadu under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan without conditions.
