A five-vehicle collision involving Rahul Gandhi's convoy occurred on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning. The Congress leader was on his way to Sultanpur for a court appearance related to a defamation case when the accident took place around 10:15 AM.

The incident was triggered when a private vehicle associated with local Congress leaders braked suddenly at the front of the convoy, leading to a chain reaction among the following vehicles. While the exact cause of the abrupt braking remains unclear, a police officer confirmed that Rahul Gandhi was safe following the incident. However, several Congress workers and security personnel reportedly suffered injuries.

In response to the accident, the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. This team will assess whether there was any negligence in security arrangements or traffic management that contributed to the incident. The SIT is expected to provide a detailed report to the police headquarters promptly.

The investigation will be led by Inspector General of Police Kiran S. Additional Superintendent of Police Brij Narayan Singh and Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Krishna Chaturvedi are also part of the SIT. The team has been instructed to suggest preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Rahul Gandhi was traveling to Sultanpur to appear in court regarding comments he made about former BJP president Amit Shah during a rally prior to the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections. His convoy, which was under police escort for security, was scheduled to arrive at the court around 11:15 AM.
