Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order an FIR against those responsible for a 'shuddhikaran' or purification ritual that took place in Haldwani after a rally addressed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Gandhi emphasized that this act reflects a mindset against Dalits and is a violation of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
During a press conference, Gandhi criticized the BJP and RSS for their silence on the matter and highlighted the broader issue of atrocities faced by Dalits in India. He stated that the purification ritual is akin to untouchability, which is illegal under the Constitution. Gandhi urged that immediate action is necessary to ensure justice for Kharge and the Dalit community at large.
