Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made significant allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a rally in Margao, Goa, on Sunday. He asserted that both leaders, along with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, would ultimately face justice for their purported involvement in electoral malpractice, which he referred to as 'vote chori.' Gandhi emphasized that the BJP's 'expiry date' is approaching and called for a full majority for Congress in the 2027 Assembly elections.
In his address, Gandhi criticized the BJP leadership for alleged corruption and for targeting student protesters. He stated, "Gyanesh Kumar implements the theft of votes, Amit Shah operationalizes it, and Narendra Modi orchestrates the entire plan from behind the scenes." He further questioned why he had not faced any defamation lawsuits specifically regarding his claims of vote theft, despite being embroiled in over 45 defamation cases initiated by BJP leaders.
Gandhi positioned Congress as the protector of the Constitution, asserting that the three leaders would be held accountable for their actions. He assured Congress workers that justice would prevail, stating, "Safeguarding the Constitution is our duty." He also took a jab at Modi, questioning the Prime Minister's confidence, asking, "Where has his 56-inch chest gone?" He suggested that Modi has become increasingly evasive in the face of Congress's challenges.
Addressing the ongoing student protests in Delhi, Gandhi condemned the use of pellet guns against students voicing concerns about vote theft, employment, and rising educational costs. He alleged that Goa has become a 'model' for corruption and urged voters to support Congress to combat issues like land conversion and unemployment. He highlighted the daily struggles faced by residents, stating that their land is being taken away and sold off.
Gandhi participated in the Congress's 'Goy Rakhon Yatra' in Margao, walking approximately two kilometers with party workers. This 27-day campaign, which began on September 22, aimed to cover all 40 Assembly constituencies and concluded on Sunday. The Congress party has framed this yatra as a movement to protect Goa's land, environment, cultural heritage, and identity.
