The violence in Manipur has escalated since May 2023, with multiple incidents reported.

On Monday, protesters in Imphal, Manipur, expressed their outrage by placing the bodies of two men outside the bungalow of Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh. The victims, identified as Arubam Ronil, 35, and Lairenlakpam Inaobi, 51, were reportedly killed by suspected militants near the border of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts. This incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing violence that has affected the region since May 2023.

The protest occurred after the victims were ambushed while collecting firewood in the hills near their village. Locals transported the bodies to the chief minister's residence in Babupara to demand accountability and action against the violence that has plagued their community. It remains unclear whether the chief minister was present during the protest, but the situation escalated as police resorted to firing tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.

In addition to the fatalities, officials reported that four other individuals sustained injuries during the attack, with one, Ksh Deven, in serious condition. The violence unfolded at Khongbal Sunurok Uyok, just a few meters from Nongshum village. Authorities are also searching for three individuals who remain missing following the incident.

The unrest in Manipur has been exacerbated by recent violent incidents, including the torching of at least 15 houses belonging to the Kuki community in Kamjong district. This attack forced many residents to flee to nearby forests and an Army camp for safety. Reports indicate that a Kuki civilian was killed, and several others were injured during these confrontations, highlighting the ongoing tensions between different community groups in the region.

Looking ahead, the situation in Manipur remains precarious as authorities grapple with the rising violence and community unrest. The state government is under pressure to address the security concerns and restore peace, with calls for investigations into the recent attacks and a commitment to protect vulnerable communities.
