On October 23, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan in New Delhi, where he interacted with a holographic avatar of Swami Chinmayananda, a prominent spiritual leader who passed away in 1993. During this unique event, PM Modi expressed his desire for blessings from the avatar, reflecting on the significant impact of their past meeting.
The Chinmaya Mission, established by Swami Chinmayananda in 1951, has dedicated itself to disseminating the teachings of Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita. This global conference, running from October 23 to 25, marks the culmination of a year-long celebration of the Mission's 75th anniversary. It is expected to attract over 9,000 participants from various countries, emphasizing the Mission's role in spiritual education and cultural preservation.
In his address, PM Modi shared his emotional connection to Swami Chinmayananda, recalling their meeting in early 1993 when he invited the leader to the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago. Unfortunately, Swami Chinmayananda passed away shortly before the event. Modi expressed that the holographic interaction allowed him to relive that cherished moment, stating, "For a moment, I felt as though I had gone back to that time."
The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of the event, noting that the term 'Chinmaya' symbolizes immortality, which adds depth to the celebrations. He praised the Chinmaya Mission for its contributions to society, including youth empowerment and community service initiatives. The event also featured various activities throughout the year, including mass havans and the consecration of temples, aimed at promoting the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.
Looking ahead, the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan is set to continue its focus on spiritual growth and community service. The Mission's ongoing efforts to engage youth and spread the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita will likely play a crucial role in shaping India's spiritual landscape in the coming years.
