Kasari-Masari to be Renamed Shrikrishnapuri, Announces UP CM
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reveals plans to rename and develop Kasari-Masari, a former stronghold of gangster Atiq Ahmed.
Kasari-Masari will be renamed Shrikrishnapuri as part of development plans.
A multi-storey housing project will feature 602 flats and various amenities.
Atiq Ahmed, the former gangster, was killed in 2023, leading to this redevelopment initiative.
In a significant announcement on Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared that Kasari-Masari, previously known as a stronghold of the deceased gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, will be renamed Shrikrishnapuri. This decision was made during the 'bhoomi pujan' ceremony for the Padma Lok Apartment project, which is being developed by the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) in the same area.
The site for the new housing project had been previously encroached upon by Ahmed, who was assassinated in April 2023. During the announcement, Adityanath emphasized the transformation of the area, stating, "Mafia Atiq Ahmed terror's stronghold Kasari-Masari to be developed as 'Shrikrishnapuri.'" This renaming is seen as a step towards erasing the negative legacy associated with Ahmed.
The Padma Lok Apartment project will span 9,811 square meters and consist of a 14-storey building housing 602 flats. Each flat will feature two bedrooms, a hall, and a kitchen, covering an area of 56.45 square meters. Additionally, the residential complex will include modern amenities such as a rainwater harvesting system, solar power, a swimming pool, a community hall, and a commercial area.
The PDA has already conducted a lottery in April 2025 to select beneficiaries for the flats, indicating a proactive approach to housing development in the region. This initiative aims to provide better living conditions and infrastructure for the residents of Prayagraj.
Looking ahead, the development of Shrikrishnapuri is expected to commence soon, with the government aiming to revitalize the area and attract more residents. This project not only signifies a change in the area's identity but also reflects the government's commitment to improving urban living standards in Uttar Pradesh.
