Jio Platforms is undergoing a strategic shift, moving its growth focus from building digital infrastructure to maximizing the value derived from its existing network. This change comes after years of substantial investments aimed at enhancing connectivity across India. The company is now looking to improve returns on its investments by broadening its service offerings, enhancing operational efficiency, and selectively pursuing new growth avenues.
In an email interview, Akash Ambani emphasized that the company’s capital allocation will be driven by the goal of creating sustainable long-term value. He stated, "Over the medium and longer term, the focus will be on extracting greater value from the infrastructure already built, expanding the range of services offered to customers, improving operating efficiency, and selectively pursuing new growth opportunities."
As of March 2026, Jio boasts a significant infrastructure footprint, with access to over 360,000 network towers, most of which are fiberized, and a fiber network extending beyond one million route kilometers. The wireless broadband service covers over 99% of India's population, while fixed broadband reaches approximately 98% of PIN codes. Notably, Jio accounted for nearly 60% of India's wireless data traffic in FY26.
The company is also witnessing a moderation in its investment cycle, with cash capital expenditure dropping to Rs 34,184 crore in FY26, down from Rs 44,268 crore in FY25. Network capital expenditure alone decreased to Rs 29,377 crore from Rs 40,617 crore in the previous fiscal year. Despite this reduction, Jio is generating substantial operating earnings, with revenue from operations reaching Rs 1.47 lakh crore and an EBITDA of Rs 76,255 crore, resulting in a margin of approximately 52%.
Looking ahead, Ambani outlined that immediate priorities include maintaining network quality, expanding home broadband and fixed wireless access, and bolstering enterprise and digital services. Jio is also set to explore opportunities in AI-enabled enterprise solutions, IoT, cloud computing, and AR/VR technologies. The company’s upcoming IPO, valued at Rs 30,200 crore, will consist entirely of a fresh issue of shares and is scheduled to open on October 21 and close on October 23, with a price band of Rs 1,065-1,119 per share. A significant portion of the proceeds will be allocated for repaying borrowings at its subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm, while the remainder will support general corporate purposes.
