The Noida International Airport located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, has officially been renamed Narendra Modi International Airport. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a press conference on Friday, where he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the airport, calling it a significant contribution to the state.

The decision to rename the airport was approved by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, which acknowledged the importance of the facility in enhancing the state's connectivity and economic potential. Chief Minister Adityanath highlighted that the airport is poised to become the largest in Uttar Pradesh and a key aviation hub in India, further emphasizing its strategic significance.

The airport, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on March 28, 2023, marked its first flight landing on June 15, with an IndiGo aircraft arriving from Lucknow. Developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, the airport is a collaborative project with the Noida International Airport Limited, acting on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government.

Constructed at a cost of ₹11,282 crore, the first phase of the airport is designed to accommodate 1.2 crore passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 7 crore in the coming years. The facility features a 3,900-meter runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft and is equipped with advanced navigation systems to ensure operational efficiency.

The airport aims to serve as a multimodal transport hub, integrating air, road, and other transport modes to enhance connectivity. With a focus on passenger safety and modern infrastructure, the airport has been engineered to meet global standards. The single runway at Jewar is fitted with Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) at both ends, allowing for flexible aircraft approaches based on prevailing wind conditions.
