JD(U) Legislator Anant Singh Claims to Have Ordered Nine Murders
Anant Singh's controversial statement about past murders has drawn backlash and led to a retraction amid political tensions.
Anant Singh initially claimed he was involved in nine murders while with Nitish Kumar.
He later clarified that his associates were killed during the Lalu Prasad regime.
The RJD has demanded answers from Nitish Kumar regarding Singh's comments.
In a shocking revelation, Anant Singh, a JD(U) legislator from Mokama, stirred controversy by claiming he had orchestrated the murders of nine individuals during his political career. This statement was made on Friday amidst the backdrop of a political rift concerning the Patna Graduates’ MLC election, where Singh is supporting Prashant Kishor's candidate against the JD(U)'s own Neeraj Kumar.
Singh's provocative comments were made during a press interaction, where he asserted, "Who has made so many sacrifices as I have? Nitish Kumar was nothing back then; he used to roam around here and there. At that time, while being with Nitish Kumar, I got nine people murdered." This statement quickly went viral, prompting significant backlash from both his party and opposition members.
As the fallout continued, Singh retracted his earlier claim, explaining that during the regime of Lalu Prasad Yadav, nine of his associates were murdered, and he himself was shot. He attributed these violent incidents to their political alignment with Nitish Kumar, stating, "It was because we aligned ourselves with Nitish Kumar that Lalu had them killed. We have suffered such immense losses. My father also passed away due to a heart attack."
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) seized upon Singh's comments, demanding an explanation from Nitish Kumar. RJD spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav stated, "Anant has publicly confessed to killing nine persons during the NDA regime. Now Nitish will have to offer explanations." Yadav further emphasized that the responsibility for the murders lies with the Nitish Kumar administration, asserting, "There will be no escape from this sin."
In response to the controversy, JD(U) officials dismissed Singh's remarks as a reflection of his frustration. Party spokesperson Shyam Rajak stated, "Anant’s statement is the reflection of his frustration," indicating that the party does not support the claims made by Singh. The incident has raised questions about political accountability and the implications of such statements in the current political climate of Bihar.
