Jammu Police Charge Army Officer's Wife for Sharing Sensitive Info
A senior Army officer's wife faces charges for allegedly providing sensitive information to Chinese intelligence operatives posing as academics.
The accused unknowingly engaged with Chinese operatives under the guise of academic collaboration.
An FIR has been filed under the Official Secrets Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigations reveal potential exposure of strategic information linked to national security.
The Jammu and Kashmir police have charged the wife of a senior Army officer with allegedly transmitting sensitive information to foreign intelligence agents, specifically those linked to China. The woman, currently residing in Telangana but living within the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar Police Station in Jammu, reportedly fell victim to a deception, believing she was interacting with genuine academicians.
According to the police report, an FIR has been registered under FIR No. 290/2026, citing violations of the Official Secrets Act of 1923, along with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Official Secrets Act addresses offenses related to the unauthorized communication of information detrimental to national security, while the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita outlines penalties for wrongful handling of protected information.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman was approached by individuals posing as scholars who encouraged her to write articles on various topics, initially focusing on environmental and geopolitical issues before shifting to defense-related subjects. Authorities believe she unknowingly became ensnared in an 'intellectual trap,' failing to recognize the true intentions of her contacts.
The investigation was prompted by credible information indicating her involvement in the clandestine collection and transmission of sensitive documents and data that could threaten state security. It is alleged that this information may have been shared through encrypted channels with foreign intelligence operatives, particularly those from China.
As the investigation continues, police have not disclosed specific details regarding the nature of the documents involved, the identities of the foreign contacts, or the extent of any information shared. Authorities are currently working to determine how the woman established contact with these foreign operatives and the implications of her actions for national security.
