Tehran demands clarity on US responses to its proposals, including a ceasefire and sanctions relief.
On Sunday, Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, expressed dissatisfaction with the United States' response to Tehran's seven conditions for reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian state media, Rezaei characterized the US reaction as 'insufficient', highlighting that while some conditions were acknowledged, others lacked clarity.
The Iranian government has proposed a framework for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming discussions regarding its nuclear program within a week. This proposal is contingent upon the US lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports, removing sanctions on Iranian oil exports, and enforcing a ceasefire that would extend to Lebanon. These conditions are critical for Iran as it seeks to stabilize its economic and geopolitical standing.
In a related development, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran would respond to a US peace proposal concerning the West Asia conflict within the coming days. This announcement comes amid reports indicating that the US is contemplating military options for a potential escalation of hostilities against Iran. Araghchi emphasized that negotiations between the two nations are ongoing, with communications being facilitated through intermediaries.
The negotiation process remains active, with Araghchi confirming that messages are being exchanged between Tehran and Washington. He noted that Iran had previously submitted its 'Seven-Day Plan' and had received feedback from the US regarding this proposal. This ongoing dialogue reflects the complexities of US-Iran relations and the delicate balance of power in the region.
Looking ahead, the Iranian government is keen on receiving a more definitive response from the US regarding its conditions. The outcome of these negotiations could significantly impact regional stability and the future of diplomatic relations between Iran and the United States, especially in light of the heightened military tensions in the area.
