Concerns over rising crude oil prices amid geopolitical tensions persist.
On October 14, 2026, the Indian stock market is anticipated to open on a negative note, as indicated by GIFT Nifty, which suggests a muted opening. This comes after a robust performance on the previous day, where the Sensex saw a significant surge of over 1,100 points. The backdrop of rising crude oil prices and ongoing tensions in the Middle East are contributing to a cautious market sentiment.
The previous day's trading saw the BSE Sensex closing at 73,033.78, up by 1,109.10 points, or 1.54%. This marked the index's strongest single-day gain in four months, driven by gains in IT, financial, and FMCG sectors. Ajit Mishra from Religare Broking noted that the market's recovery was steady throughout the session, with the Nifty closing at 22,721.95, also reflecting a significant rebound.
Despite the positive close, analysts express caution regarding the market's sustainability. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, highlighted that while corporate earnings are improving, the rising crude oil prices, which have approached the $95-per-barrel mark, pose inflationary risks. The uncertainty surrounding energy supplies could hinder the domestic market's recovery, making it essential for investors to monitor developments closely.
Looking ahead, analysts are optimistic yet cautious. Sachin Gupta from Choice Equity Broking indicated that the Sensex outlook has improved, suggesting that a sustained hold above 72,400–72,650 could pave the way for further gains. However, he warned that failure to maintain these levels might lead to consolidation or renewed selling pressure. For the Nifty, Nandish Shah from HDFC Securities noted that a decisive breakout above the resistance zone of 23,100–23,150 would bolster the bullish structure, while support levels have shifted higher.
As global markets react to mixed earnings reports and ongoing concerns about semiconductor stocks, Wall Street indices closed lower. The Dow Jones fell by 180.45 points, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also recorded slight declines. Asian markets, however, showed signs of recovery, with South Korea's Kospi and Japan's Nikkei 225 opening higher. Investors are advised to remain vigilant and consult with financial advisors before making investment decisions.
