IAF Chief Air Marshal AP Singh confirms no official offer from the US for the F-35.
The F-35 participated in the 'Tarang Shakti' multilateral air exercise for the first time.
Singh emphasized the IAF's evolution into a significant global air power since its inception.
In a significant development during the 'Tarang Shakti' multilateral air exercise held at the Jodhpur Air Force Station, Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Marshal AP Singh stated that the United States has not extended any official offer for its F-35 fighter jet. This statement was made on the sidelines of the exercise, which features participation from seven foreign nations, including the US, France, Germany, and Australia.
The inclusion of the F-35 in the 'Tarang Shakti' exercise marks its debut in such a multilateral setting. Singh humorously remarked about the challenges faced by the IAF in accessing the aircraft, saying, "I was telling the PACAF commander that your people don't even let us go near the aircraft. And you talk about selling it to us." This comment underscores the complexities surrounding defense procurement and international military cooperation.
The IAF celebrated its 94th anniversary just before the exercise, highlighting its growth into a formidable global air power since its establishment in 1932 with only four Wapiti aircraft. Singh noted the importance of the 'Tarang Shakti' exercise in showcasing the IAF's capabilities and its evolution over the decades.
Singh also reflected on the IAF's operational readiness, referencing last year's military confrontation with Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, which demonstrated the swift response capabilities of the IAF. He stated, "Last year, the whole world witnessed the speed with which the IAF moved into combat operations," emphasizing the crucial role of air power in national defense.
Looking ahead, the IAF is expected to continue strengthening its operational capabilities and international partnerships. The ongoing discussions regarding the F-35 and other advanced aircraft will likely shape future defense strategies and collaborations between India and the US, as both nations seek to enhance their military ties amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics.
