In a tragic incident on Friday evening, five people were killed and three others injured following a massive explosion in a house storing firecrackers in Alampur village, Siwan district, Bihar. The explosion occurred around 5:30 PM, leading to the recovery of five bodies from the debris, which also caused significant damage to the house and surrounding area.
The victims included 65-year-old Md Amiruddin, his two granddaughters aged 14 and 8, a 10-year-old neighbor, and an unidentified individual. Eyewitness accounts revealed that eight people were present in the house at the time of the explosion, but they managed to escape with minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The intensity of the blast was so severe that debris from the house fell onto the road, causing panic among residents in the vicinity.
In response to the incident, Siwan Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni announced the suspension of Jamo Bazar police station officer Dhiraj Kumar and local chowkidar Chandrika Manjhi, citing negligence. The fire reportedly originated from firecrackers stored in the home of Amiruddin, who was known to be a firecracker trader. The situation escalated as the fire spread to other stored firecrackers, resulting in a series of explosions that lasted for approximately two hours.
Senior officials, including Siwan District Magistrate Vijay Prakash Meena, visited the explosion site to assess the situation. A comprehensive response team, including medical personnel, fire department officials, and forensic experts, was deployed to secure the area and gather evidence. Initial investigations revealed that the family had been involved in the firecracker trade for around 20 years and claimed to possess the necessary licenses. However, police are currently verifying these claims and examining the legality of their operations.
Moving forward, a special police team has been established to investigate the incident thoroughly. SP Soni emphasized the importance of determining the origins of the firecrackers, the validity of licenses, and adherence to safety regulations. The investigation will also address any lapses in prior inspections and hold responsible parties accountable. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragedy, officials are committed to ensuring safety and compliance in firecracker trading practices in the region.
