Enhanced Security Measures for Modi's Attendance at Dussehra in Delhi
A comprehensive three-layer security system is set for Prime Minister Modi's anticipated participation in the Dussehra festivities in Delhi.
Approximately 2,500 security personnel will be deployed for the event.
Traffic diversions will affect central, south, and east Delhi from 5 PM to 8 PM.
Only attendees with valid passes will be allowed entry to the venue.
In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's expected presence at the Dussehra celebrations in Delhi, a robust three-layer security arrangement is being implemented at the Utsav Ground in IP Extension. The event, scheduled for Tuesday evening, will feature the traditional Ravana Dahan ceremony, where effigies of the demon king Ravana are burned to symbolize the victory of good over evil. Authorities are taking extensive precautions to ensure the safety of attendees and the Prime Minister.
The security measures involve nearly 2,500 personnel from the Delhi Police and central armed paramilitary forces, including specialized commandos from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit. Given the potential for protests or disruptions by anti-social elements, officials have emphasized the need for heightened vigilance. The Special Protection Group (SPG) will oversee the innermost security layer, while the Delhi Police's Prime Minister security wing will manage the middle layer, and local police will handle the outermost layer.
Officials estimate that around 10,000 people are expected to attend the Ravana Dahan ceremony. Only individuals with valid entry passes issued by the event organizers will be permitted access when the Prime Minister arrives around 6:30 PM. Attendees will undergo mandatory security checks at entry points, and multiple anti-sabotage inspections have already been conducted to ensure the venue's safety.
Deputy Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has confirmed that comprehensive security and traffic management plans are in place for the Dussehra events. In addition to the deployment of ground personnel, aerial surveillance using drones will be utilized to monitor the area. Security measures include the installation of metal detectors and baggage scanners at all entry points, as well as the presence of sniffer dogs and quick reaction teams to address any emergencies.
Traffic arrangements will also be significantly impacted, with approximately 300 traffic police personnel assigned to manage routes around the venue. Diversions will be in effect from 5 PM to 8 PM in various parts of Delhi, including National Highway 24 and Vikas Marg. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and use alternative routes to avoid congestion. The traffic police have issued advisories urging motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and remain patient during the event.
