In a devastating incident early this morning, a bus carrying passengers from Bhopal to Khatu Shyam overturned and fell into a ditch on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Kota, Rajasthan, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals and injuries to 17 others. The accident occurred around 8 AM, prompting immediate response from local authorities.
The victims have been identified as Aruna, Vaishnavi, Trisha, Krishna, Anita, Om, Suryavanshi, and Raju. Among the deceased, five were women. The injured passengers have been transported to MBS Hospital and New Medical College for treatment, where officials confirmed that none of the injuries are currently life-threatening.
According to preliminary investigations, the bus lost control after the driver dozed off while navigating the expressway. The vehicle broke through the railing and plunged into a culvert, leading to a chaotic scene as emergency services were summoned. Four ambulances were dispatched to the site to facilitate the swift transfer of the injured to medical facilities.
ASP Ram Kalyan Meena provided insights into the situation, stating that the bus was part of a group traveling from Bhopal to Khatu Shyam Ji. He confirmed that the driver’s fatigue was a significant factor in the accident, which occurred within the jurisdiction of the Simliya Police Station.
This tragic event has raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter regulations regarding driver fatigue. As the investigation continues, local authorities are expected to review safety protocols on the expressway to prevent future incidents.
