In a bid to address the escalating air pollution crisis, the Delhi Traffic Police announced a series of measures during an inter-state coordination meeting held on Thursday. Key strategies include the formation of a dedicated WhatsApp group aimed at enhancing collaboration among various agencies, alongside strict entry restrictions for vehicles registered outside Delhi.

The meeting brought together officials from the Delhi Traffic Police, civic agencies, and police authorities from neighboring states to discuss the effective implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) and directives from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) SK Singh emphasized the importance of these measures to mitigate air quality issues in the capital.

Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhry highlighted the necessity of real-time updates through the proposed WhatsApp group, which will facilitate the sharing of CAQM directives and monitor actions taken by various departments. Furthermore, he stressed the need to prevent non-compliant inter-city and inter-state buses from entering Delhi, as their presence contributes significantly to traffic congestion and pollution.

The enforcement of entry restrictions will commence on November 1 and continue until January 31, targeting vehicles that do not meet emission standards. Only electric vehicles, CNG, and BS-VI diesel buses will be permitted under specific conditions. Prominent signage will be installed at Delhi's borders to inform drivers about the restrictions and the types of vehicles that are prohibited from entering the city.

In addition to these measures, the traffic police plan to establish joint enforcement teams at the borders to ensure compliance with no-entry timings and to monitor overloaded vehicles. Civic agencies have been instructed to expedite construction projects while minimizing dust emissions and conducting regular water sprinkling on roads. The overall goal is to enhance public awareness regarding GRAP measures and vehicle entry restrictions, ultimately aiming to reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality in Delhi.
