In a recent development, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) in Delhi has formally requested Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to postpone the upcoming rally of the INDIA bloc scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan. The traders' body is apprehensive that the large gathering could significantly disrupt business activities during the crucial Diwali shopping period, which is vital for many local markets.

CTI chairman Brijesh Goyal highlighted the concerns of representatives from 20 different markets who fear that the anticipated turnout of approximately 1 million people could hinder their festive sales. In a letter addressed to Gandhi, Goyal emphasized the need for dialogue rather than conflict, stating, "We don't want a fight; we want dialogue." He urged Gandhi to grant them a 20-minute meeting to discuss the potential negative impact of the rally on their businesses.

This letter marks the second correspondence from the CTI to Gandhi within a short span of four days. The first letter, sent on October 24, also sought to address the potential disruptions during one of the busiest shopping seasons in Delhi. The markets that could be affected include prominent areas such as Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, and Sadar Bazar, all located within a 1-5 km radius of the rally site.

The concerns raised by the traders come at a time when the INDIA bloc is gearing up for a significant demonstration in the national capital, aimed at addressing allegations of electoral malpractice and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The opposition alliance is mobilizing support to strengthen their position against the government, following a series of protests related to the electoral roll revision process.

Looking ahead, the CTI has indicated that they would be willing to withdraw their protest if Gandhi can assure them that the rally would ultimately benefit their businesses. However, if the traders can successfully convey their concerns about potential losses, they hope for a commitment from Gandhi to postpone the event until after Diwali. The outcome of this dialogue could significantly influence the dynamics of both the rally and the traders' business operations during the festive season.
