Fresh summons issued to Dhruv Rathee in a defamation case from 2018.
The complainant claims Rathee's video contains false allegations.

A Delhi court has issued new summons to YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a defamation case dating back to 2018. The summons were issued on October 12, 2026, following a request from the complainant, Vikas Sanskrityayan, who alleged that Rathee's video was defamatory. The case centers around a video titled 'BJP IT Cell Part II,' which Sanskrityayan claims contains false allegations against him.
The judicial proceedings were initiated after Sanskrityayan filed a complaint asserting that Rathee, who resides in Germany, made damaging statements in the video. The complainant sought to expedite the hearing, originally scheduled for November 20, due to Rathee's temporary presence in India related to a protest organized by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP).
Judicial Magistrate First Class Rahul Jain of Saket Courts acknowledged the complainant's efforts to serve summons to Rathee, which have faced delays over the years due to his residence abroad. The court noted that the initial summons was issued on July 23, 2019, and directed that fresh summons be issued to ensure timely service, especially since the complainant has indicated knowledge of Rathee's current location in Haryana.
The implications of this case extend beyond the individuals involved, as it raises questions about the responsibilities of content creators in addressing allegations made in their work. The outcome could set a precedent for how defamation cases involving online personalities are handled in India, particularly concerning jurisdiction and service of summons.
The next court date is set for October 17, 2026, where further developments in the case will be discussed, potentially leading to a resolution or additional hearings depending on the proceedings.
