A cyclone alert has been issued for the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal to evolve into a very severe cyclonic storm by October 28. The storm is anticipated to bring gusty winds reaching up to 140 km/h and heavy rainfall starting from October 27, impacting several states including Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
According to the IMD's latest bulletin released on October 25, the deep depression was located approximately 420 km north-northwest of Sri Vijaya Puram in the Andaman Islands. The system is expected to move southwest initially and then shift to a west-northwest trajectory, intensifying as it approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast. The cyclone is predicted to make landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, with maximum sustained winds of 115-125 km/h.
The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh on October 27 and 28, with Odisha and Telangana also facing similar weather conditions on October 28. Chhattisgarh is expected to experience heavy rainfall on October 28 and 29. The agency has issued an orange alert, urging residents to remain vigilant and follow official updates.
As the cyclone approaches, the potential for flooding and disruption to daily life increases, particularly in low-lying areas. Local authorities are preparing for emergency responses, and residents are encouraged to secure their properties and stay informed about evacuation plans if necessary. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely, providing updates as the storm develops.
Looking ahead, the IMD will issue further alerts as the cyclone progresses. Residents in the affected areas are advised to keep an eye on weather forecasts and heed any warnings issued by local authorities. The situation will be closely monitored in the coming days as the storm approaches landfall.
