A developing low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal is projected to evolve into Cyclone Arnab, impacting Odisha's coastal regions from October 25 to 27. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that this system is expected to move northwest and intensify into a cyclonic storm by the end of the week.
According to IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the cyclone is anticipated to reach severe status by October 27, with increasing wind speeds. The exact landfall location and wind intensity remain uncertain as meteorologists continue to monitor its trajectory closely.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for several coastal and southern districts, particularly affecting areas between Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh and Gopalpur in Odisha. A red alert has been issued for six districts: Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, indicating the potential for significant weather-related impacts.
In light of the approaching cyclone, authorities have advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea due to expected rough conditions. Additionally, government holidays in the affected regions have been canceled as a precautionary measure. Emergency services and government officials in these districts are on high alert to manage any emergencies that may arise from the storm.
As the situation develops, residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety advisories issued by local authorities. The IMD will continue to provide updates on the cyclone's progress and its potential impacts on the region.
