In a recent statement, Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has accused the state of intentionally delaying the release of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. He claims that the authorities are employing various tactics to prolong their detention and obstruct court proceedings. Dipke expressed his concerns in a post on social media, stating that the state lacks legitimate grounds for their continued imprisonment and is resorting to delaying tactics to keep them incarcerated.
Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were arrested on October 14 after they entered Jantar Mantar, a designated protest area, by scaling its locked gates. According to CJP leaders, they displayed the national flag and chanted slogans during their demonstration. Following their arrest, they were placed in judicial custody for five days. The CJP's legal head, Ratna Singh, who attended the court proceedings, criticized the Special Executive Magistrate for making arbitrary comments and for the delays in the hearing process.
Singh reported that the court session was scheduled to begin at noon, but the magistrate did not arrive until late afternoon. When he finally appeared, he allegedly refused to address the merits of the case regarding the release of Das and Ranka, instead focusing on a purported threatening message he received. Singh contended that this shift in focus was a deliberate attempt to sidestep the critical issues surrounding the case.
The CJP has stated that if Das and Ranka are not released by the end of the day, they will pursue legal action against those responsible for their continued detention. They emphasized that the use of delaying tactics is unacceptable and that accountability will be sought for those involved. The police have yet to respond to the allegations made by the CJP regarding the handling of the case.
As the situation develops, the CJP is prepared to escalate its legal efforts if necessary. The outcome of this case could have broader implications for the treatment of protestors and the legal processes surrounding their rights in India. The CJP's commitment to challenging perceived injustices reflects ongoing tensions in the political landscape, particularly regarding the rights of individuals to peacefully protest.
