CJP Leaders Released After Assurance Against Protests at Jantar Mantar
Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka are released from custody after promising not to protest at Jantar Mantar until further notice.
CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released from judicial custody.
They provided written undertakings to maintain peace and avoid protests at Jantar Mantar.
The next court hearing is scheduled for October 23 at 3 PM.
In a significant legal development, CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released from judicial custody by a Special Executive Magistrate in Delhi. This decision came after the leaders submitted written assurances to the court, committing to refrain from any protests at Jantar Mantar until it is officially de-notified as a protest site.
The order was issued by Special Executive Magistrate Ritu Raj, who was addressing a request from the Delhi Police for an extension of the duo's judicial custody. The police had cited concerns over potential breaches of peace, referencing statements made by the leaders and their associates. In their written commitments, Ranka and Das expressed their respect for the judiciary and confirmed their intention to conduct any future protests within the constitutional framework of India.
The police's request for an extension was based on fears that the leaders' actions could disrupt public order. They highlighted a media statement made by another group member, which they argued undermined the court's authority. However, the defense counsel provided an unconditional apology and assured the court that such behavior would not occur again. After reviewing the arguments, the Magistrate deemed that the leaders' written undertakings were sufficient to ensure public safety without the need for further custody.
Following this ruling, both leaders were instructed to submit personal and surety bonds of ₹50,000 each, which would remain in effect until the inquiry concludes. The Magistrate emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and public order, directing the leaders to appear in court for all future hearings.
The inquiry into the matter is ongoing, with the next court session set for October 23 at 3 PM. The situation remains closely monitored as the leaders navigate the legal landscape while adhering to their commitments to uphold peace in the community.
