The BJP's victory reflects growing dissatisfaction with the Congress among voters in Karnataka.

In a decisive outcome, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the Karnataka Legislative Council elections, winning all four contested seats on October 23. This result marks a significant setback for the ruling Congress party, led by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who faced criticism following the electoral defeat.

The BJP's Karnataka unit celebrated the results with a playful jab at Shivakumar, posting on social media, "DK, it's done, bro," referencing a popular phrase from actor Salman Khan. The BJP secured victories in the North-East Teachers', South-East Graduates', and West Graduates' constituencies, while its ally, the Janata Dal (Secular) or JD(S), claimed the Bengaluru Teachers' Constituency.

Shivakumar addressed the media, acknowledging the voters' decision and expressing surprise at the outcome, stating, "We had expected to win two seats." He emphasized the need to prepare party workers and strengthen the organization in light of the results. Veteran BJP leader BS Yediyurappa remarked that the electorate is "fed up" with Congress and suggested that fresh elections may be necessary.

The electoral results highlighted a shift in voter sentiment, with JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy criticizing Shivakumar for failing to fulfill promises. Kumaraswamy noted that the voters seem inclined to support the NDA alliance in the upcoming 2028 elections. In the Bengaluru Teachers' Constituency, JD(S) candidate AP Ranganath defeated incumbent Congress member Puttanna by 908 votes, while BJP's Shashil G Namoshi won against Congress's Sharanappa Mattur by a margin of 3,297 votes in the North-East Teachers' Constituency.

With these results, the Karnataka Legislative Council now comprises 37 members from Congress, 24 from BJP, seven from JD(S), and one Independent. Five seats remain vacant for government nominations. The BJP's clean sweep in this election could have lasting implications for the political landscape in Karnataka, as the party looks to capitalize on its momentum heading into future elections.
