The highly anticipated Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to launch on November 1, 2026, coinciding with the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations. This new service aims to enhance connectivity between Karnataka's capital and India's financial center, providing a faster alternative for travelers frequently commuting between these two major cities for work or leisure.
The proposed timetable indicates that the train will cover a distance of approximately 1,118 kilometers in around 16 hours. Departing from Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru at 7:50 PM, it is expected to arrive at Mumbai CSMT the next day at 11:55 AM. The return journey will leave Mumbai at 8:10 PM, arriving back in Bengaluru at the same time the following day. The train is slated to operate six days a week, with a route that includes fewer curves for optimal speed.
Intermediate stops along the route will include Anantapur, Guntakal, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Solapur, Pune, and Kalyan. This new service is projected to save passengers around six hours compared to the existing Udyan Express, which takes approximately 22 hours for the same journey. The Vande Bharat Sleeper is particularly appealing to business travelers and those who prefer train travel over flights due to the convenience of railway stations.
The train is expected to feature a 16-coach configuration with three accommodation classes: AC three-tier, AC two-tier, and AC first class, providing a total of around 823 berths. Premium amenities will include safety systems, CCTV surveillance, crashworthy designs, fire detection, USB charging ports, automatic doors, and specialized lavatory facilities, enhancing the overall travel experience.
With improved connectivity, Bengaluru will serve as a gateway for exploring Karnataka's cultural sites and natural beauty, while Mumbai will offer access to Maharashtra's historic areas and coastal attractions. The launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper is anticipated to significantly benefit travelers, making their journeys more efficient and enjoyable.
