Protests erupted nationwide demanding accountability from the government regarding electoral reforms.

In a significant development ahead of the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' march scheduled for Friday evening, Delhi Police detained Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), under preventive arrest. This action took place just moments before he was set to join the gathering at Central Park, following his exit from a residence in Jhandewalan, Karol Bagh. The police cited Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) as the basis for his detention. Dipke is expected to appear before the Special Executive Magistrate court on Saturday.

This is not the first time Dipke has faced legal troubles. He, along with CJP members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, was previously arrested on an aircraft returning from Mumbai for a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. They were released on a peace bond but faced further legal challenges this week, including charges of trespassing and obstructing public servants after they waved the national flag at Jantar Mantar.

In contrast, Neha Bora, president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), was released early Saturday after being detained for nearly five hours. The police confirmed that her release followed the completion of formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. AISA claimed that Bora was moved between various locations before being taken to the R.K. Puram police station, where her lawyers faced difficulties in accessing her.

The detention of Bora sparked widespread protests across the country, culminating in a demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Former AISA leader N. Sai Balaji emphasized that the protests would persist until accountability is established regarding the government's handling of the Election Commission and its autonomy.

Looking ahead, the situation remains tense as the CJP and AISA continue to mobilize support for their causes. The upcoming court appearance of Abhijeet Dipke will be closely monitored, and further protests are anticipated as activists seek to challenge the government's stance on electoral reforms.
