The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across several states today, particularly emphasizing a red alert for parts of Delhi. This alert is in effect until 1:30 PM, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms and heavy rain in Central, North, Northwest, Northeast Delhi, and Shahdara regions. The monsoon remains active, contributing to a generally cloudy sky in the capital with moderate rain expected throughout the day.
This weather warning comes after a series of heavy downpours over the past few days, which have already led to significant waterlogging in various areas of Delhi-NCR. The situation has caused traffic disruptions, particularly in Gurugram, where vehicles were caught in long queues due to flooded roads. The IMD has also placed Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Noida under a yellow alert, signaling caution for residents in these regions.
In addition to Delhi, the IMD forecasts heavy rain in other states including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The eastern and northeastern regions are also on alert, with heavy rainfall expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and parts of Bihar and Nagaland. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are anticipated across many of these areas, with wind speeds reaching up to 40 km/h.
The broader implications of this weather system extend beyond immediate rainfall. The ongoing wet conditions are likely to affect daily life, agriculture, and transportation in the impacted regions. Authorities are preparing for potential flooding and traffic disruptions, urging residents to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
Looking ahead, the IMD predicts that the wet spell will continue into Monday, with heavy rain expected to persist in several states, albeit with a narrower focus on specific areas. Residents in the affected regions are advised to remain vigilant as the forecast indicates isolated heavy rainfall in states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Thunderstorms with lightning are also likely, emphasizing the need for caution in outdoor activities.
