In Uttarkashi, ongoing rescue operations are aimed at evacuating 136 trekkers, mountaineers, and porters trapped in the high-altitude regions due to recent snowfall. The district administration has mobilized resources to ensure the safe return of these individuals, who are currently located in challenging terrains.
Among those stranded are 89 members of a high-altitude expedition, 18 individuals at the Kalindi Pass base camp, and 29 at the Auden's Col Pass base camp. While the situation remains critical, most tourists who were stuck at Bhojwasa and Chirbasa have already been successfully brought back with the help of the Gangotri National Park staff.
The rescue efforts are being coordinated by joint teams that include personnel from the district administration, the Forest Department, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and disaster management units. These teams are actively working to transport remaining trekkers and porters to safer areas, ensuring their well-being during this adverse weather.
District Magistrate Prashant Arya is overseeing the rescue operations from the control room, receiving real-time updates from the teams involved. His leadership is crucial in managing the logistics and addressing any emerging challenges during the operation.
Looking ahead, the district administration is committed to continuing the rescue efforts until all stranded individuals are safely evacuated. Authorities are also monitoring weather conditions closely to adapt their strategies as necessary, ensuring the safety of both the rescue teams and those they are assisting.
