In a shocking incident in Satara district, Maharashtra, a father fatally attacked his 17-year-old daughter, Arya Kadam, with a cricket bat after a dispute over watching television. The tragic event unfolded on Saturday night when Arya engaged in a confrontation with her younger siblings regarding TV time, which escalated into violence.
According to police reports, the argument intensified when Arya struck her younger sister in the eye. Her father, Purushottam, intervened and reprimanded her, prompting Arya to react aggressively. In a fit of rage, she approached him wielding the bat, which led Purushottam to seize the bat and strike her on the head, resulting in her immediate death from severe injuries.
Following the incident, Purushottam reportedly remained near Arya's body for an extended period before informing his wife the next morning. In an attempt to conceal the crime, he cleaned the blood from the floor and washed Arya's bloodstained T-shirt multiple times. The bat used in the attack was discarded on the roof. Initially, the family misled authorities, claiming Arya had accidentally injured herself, but the truth emerged during police questioning, leading to Purushottam's confession.
Neighbors described Arya as a friendly and sociable individual, contradicting her father's claims about her behavior. Investigations revealed that Arya had been struggling with mental health issues and was under psychiatric care in Pune, receiving daily medication. Reports indicated that she had previously exhibited violent tendencies, including an incident in May where she fractured her father's arm during an altercation.
