Tiger Shroff's Shooting Incident Sparks Political Outcry in Maharashtra
The recent shooting at Bollywood star Tiger Shroff's vehicle in Mumbai has led to severe criticism of the Maharashtra government over public safety concerns.
Tiger Shroff was unharmed in a shooting incident in Mumbai's Juhu area.
Opposition leaders blame Chief Minister Fadnavis for deteriorating law and order.
Calls for a separate home minister for Maharashtra have intensified following the incident.
In a shocking incident on Sunday evening, gunmen opened fire at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff's vehicle in Mumbai's Juhu area, although the actor escaped without injury. The attack, which also left Shroff's driver and an autorickshaw driver wounded, has raised serious concerns about the safety and security situation in Maharashtra, prompting a wave of criticism directed at the state government.
The opposition, particularly Congress leaders, have voiced their discontent with the current law enforcement measures in Mumbai. Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant highlighted the chaos in the city, pointing to a series of violent incidents, including the murder of former minister Baba Siddique and threats against prominent figures in the film industry. Sawant's remarks reflect a growing sentiment that the state's governance under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also oversees the Home portfolio, is failing to protect its citizens.
Mumbai Congress president Varsha Gaikwad echoed these sentiments, questioning the effectiveness of the police and whether they still command respect and authority. She emphasized the need for a dedicated home minister for Maharashtra, arguing that if high-profile individuals like actors and politicians are not safe, ordinary citizens are at even greater risk. Gaikwad's statements come in the wake of a series of violent incidents that have shaken public confidence in the state's law enforcement capabilities.
The incident has broader implications for Mumbai, often regarded as India's financial capital. NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar warned that such violence could deter investors and harm the city's reputation. He called for an immediate reassessment of the Home portfolio, suggesting it should be entrusted to a more competent minister if the current administration cannot ensure public safety. The shooting, occurring just days after the assassination of a local political leader, raises alarms about the rising tide of violence in the region.
In response to the shooting, Chief Minister Fadnavis has taken steps to address the situation, speaking with both the Mumbai Police Commissioner and Tiger Shroff. He has urged for a swift investigation and promised that the assailants would be apprehended. Fadnavis reassured Shroff of his safety, stating, "We are all with you. We will track down the accused soon. Do not worry." As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on restoring public confidence in law enforcement and ensuring the safety of all citizens in Maharashtra.
